Hard Spun at the Wire?

I am thinking that if there were ever a time Hard Spun could beat Street Sense I think his best chance is in this Saturday's Kentucky Cup at Turfway.

There are only 5 horses signed on and no real early speedsters to push the early pace. Therefore Hard Spun should have things pretty much his own way as far as the early pace is concerned.

I mean imagine how far Hard Spun could run if the early fractions were run in about a :47 half mile and a 3/4's in 1:12?

Now we have seen Street Sense get out of his comfort zone and stay closer to the early pace in the Travers and prior in the Jim Dandy and still have enough fire to finish strong. However those early pace fractions were pretty slow.

In the Kentucky Cup the question that arises is can Street Sense stay as close to a quicker early pace and still have enough fire to outfinish a quality speed horse such as Hard Spun who figures to be setting his own pace?

Or perhaps if Street's rider Calvin Borel feels the early pace is too quick where Street Sense will have to use too much energy to get close to Hard Spun, he might just wait it out and try and make that prolonged run on the turn and hope it's good enough to overtake Hard Spun in the stretch.

Very Interesting.
