Watch List Taking Off!

Our Horses To Watch List - which is free to all - has been doing very well. And although some of the return prices might have been a little low, these races/horses can be used as singles in your multiple race exotics or as a key in your Exacta's.

Note that these horses have been spotted and listed several weeks in advance so we have no current control over giving a listed horse out running today at say 2-1.

What I like to do with my Watch List is enter each horse at DRF"s website under their Horses To Watch Listing. There I generate my list and whenever a horse from this list we just created is entered to run back - DRF.com sends out an email to let us know exactly when this horse is entered to run. This way we can't miss any listed horses and it also gives us some more action during the week.

Preakness Issues

Well, no Triple Crown Winner this year.

The move that got Street Sense to the front in the stretch should have been enough for the victory. However once again when Street Sense gets the lead in the stretch he has a habit of loafing a bit. He did the same thing when Dominican beat him prior to Kentucky.

However Curlin came up with an incredible race. No excuses, Curlin ran Street Sense down. So Congrats To Curlin and his crew.

The rest of the 3-year-old races this season are going to be incredible if everyone stays healthy.

Watch List Heating Up

We have several horses running back from our Watch List.

Prideland - 5/16/07 - Race 2 at Belmont

Give these horses a little more attention while handicapping.

Good Luck - Nick

Pre Preakness Thoughts...

As the Preakness field is starting to shape it looks as though there will be much more early speed to contend with. Add to the equation the degree of sharpness in the Pimlico turns and it all adds up fto the possibility that Street Sense will have a tougher time winning this leg of the Triple Crown than any of the other races.

Street Sense might have to stay closer to the pace this time instead of dropping so far back as he did in Kentucky. He is capable of stalking and finishing well as he has done before And if Borel feels the pace is too fast I am sure he will adjust as he will if it's too slow.

Well, now it'a all about wait and see.

Derby Notes

As I stated in my Kentucky Derby Race Analysis & Selections, this would be the year of the 2 prep winner of the Kentucky Derby. And my theory/angle about Polytrack and it's deep conditioning principles along with The Bluegrass being the best 3-year-old prep this season all proved correct when Street Sense crossed the finish line first.

Besides giving out Street Sense to all of our clients we also had a very good day on the Derby undercard highlighted by our Race 8 win selection of Hysterical Lady at $17.00 and also giving out the Exacta with Pussycat Doll at $41.00.

Lets hope the magic continues at Pimlico! Congrats to all!

The Kentucky Oaks

We are looking over a nice full field to contest this year's edition of the Oaks. The deserving favorite and standout among this group is Rags to Riches. She has had only 4 career starts winning 3 of them. She is bred to love distance and her running style suites today's race distance perfectly. She seems to be getting better with every race and although she hasn't raced in about 55 days she has been working very well over Polytrack surfaces which should add a lot of conditioning. There are several horses in here with a shot in the Exacta at a square price such as Sealy Hill. Very lightly raced winning 3 of 5 starts and it looks as though she will also love today's race distance. High Again won the Bonnie Miss in Florida then shipped to Keenland and couldn't keep her speed going over Polytrack so today she figures to have a better chance to be leading past the 1/8th pole. The same logic dictates for Mistical Plan who won at FG in a Grade II before shipping to Keenland where she just couldn't keep it going over Polytrack. Octave deserves respect after finishing strongly last time out. However she has more 2nd place finishes than wins and her price will be very low on the board so it's worth a shot trying to beat her out of the Exacta.

I am going to be looking at the board before deciding which Exacta's to lean on and in fact I might just Box a few of these contenders I have mentioned in Exacta's if the prices are right.
