Upsets over the Weekend?

Some great Thoroughbred action takes place this weekend.

On Sunday at Monmouth Park, Rachel Alexandra will battle against the boys in the Haskell Invitational while Mine That Bird will ship to Mountaineer Park on Saturday to battle in the West Virginia Derby.

I have a feeling at least one of them will get beat. What do you think?

Cashing in at Belmont

This Saturday is the last day of action at Belmont Park until the fall.

This being the case I feel that we have drawn a blueprint for making money this last Saturday at Belmont. In fact there will be at least 3 winners at odds of at least 10-1.
Then it's off to Saratoga, the graveyard of favorites!
The races at Saratoga are usually very deep with horses shipping in from all over the country. And this of course is great news to astute handicappers because it creates those beautiful big prices on the tote board!
And since we have been selecting winners at an obscenely high rate this entire season (check the results page) we expect a huge Saratoga meet.
Get on board now and set yourself up for a great Saratoga meet!

Suspension and Penalty

I find it pretty ironic that Trainer Steve Asmussen has been suspended for 6 months as one of his horses tested positive for Lidocane after breaking his Maiden some 14 months ago.

First off - why does it take 14 months to have something of this magnitude come out? What was the delay? In the testing? I will never understand that. After a horse places in the top 3 shouldn't they be tested directly after they finish the race?

Second - could Lidocane have accidentally gotten into this horses system by accident? I mean, what are the chances of that?

Of course Asmussen is appealing and this case will go on and on for a long while. This happens to be Asmussens second time of having an illegal substance found in one of his horses.
So it appears the punishment may in fact fit the crime.

The only thing I would like to see added if Asmussen is guilty is that the horse found with the Lidocane be suspended too. This way the Owners, who always claim their innocence, will also be accountable.

They will lose time and money by not being able to run their horse. Maybe then they will give their horses to trainers that aren't on the public suspicion list and ultimately these so called trainers will be weeded out and slowly pushed out of the business.

What do you think?

Friends, Clients and The Future

What kind of a day did you have at the track this past Saturday? Did you have the usual break even day? Up a few early then gave it back late? Did you have a day where you just couldn't connect on that big score? You were all around it but you just couldn't connect. So close but still couldn't cash that big ticket. We all have been there at one time or another. So there is no reason to feel down or depressed.

But perhaps we can help. Take a look at the list of results we have been posting this entire season. We have been clicking going long, going short, grass or dirt, short prices, long prices and have added some bombs too.We have been consistently good since April.

If you like to do your own handicapping what we offer is perfect. Once you form your own opinion and then have a look at what our site selects it is very possible that we might help you add that one horse that could make all the difference. A key addition to your Doubles or Pick-3's or even in your Exacta can turn a day at the track into a great day at the track.

We have been here for 5 years now. And as always I answer all emails and all questions personally. Perhaps you might want to discuss a certain horse or certain race. I would be happy to add my two cents to the mix. You can email me at the site or send a question to The Blog.

But think about giving us a try.

We could make a big difference.

-Nick

Watch List Hits Target

Once again our Watch List did it's job this weekend as we scored with Dos Hombres at $8.10 for the Win and $27.60 for the Exacta while our second Watch List horse Dixieland Star finished 2nd in a later race and was part of a $13.60 Exacta.

Congrats to all who follow our Watch List and were able to take advantage of our insights.

Watch List Alert for Sunday

This weekend 2 horses are runing back that are listed on our Watch List.

Dixieland Star ran a solid race last time out on June 6 coming off a layoff. He figures to improve off that effort and could run a career top this Sunday.

Dos Hombres looked set for a big race last time out on June 13 but encountered some poor racing luck as he suffered a tough trip. He figures to finish in the Exacta this Sunday at double digit odds!

Drugs Meds Suspensions and Thoroughbreds

Over at DRF.com Editor Steve Crist explains that he is invited to speak next month at Saratoga on the subject of Drugs and Medication in Thoroughbred Horse Racing. He has created a Blog where you can say whatever you like and he will read over all the comments, kind of giving a voice to all and he will likely add some of these comments when he does speak at Saratoga.

I feel that the bottom line for the bettor concerning the drugs and medications given to race horses is that we just want a fair shake. We don't want to see horses break track records that ordinarily couldn't get within 5 seconds of that race time. We are tired of a horse improving so drastically after getting claimed by certain trainers. We all know something is going on in these situations. Let's get real!

I say if a trainer gets caught with illegal drugs/meds then he should be banned for 6 months (first offense) along with the horse!

If the horse is also banned then the owners of the horses will be more responsible in who they give their horses to train. This will push out the bad element in the industry even more!

Imagine if a trainer and horse both get banned for 1 year? That would send a great message to the rest of the industry cheats!

We should set a governing body in place for the industry and let them set the suspensions and keep the industry on the right path. This would be a great start.

The Met, The Suburban and then The...

Do any of you remember not too long ago The Suburban Handicap run at Belmont Park used to be part of a series of 3 races creating a Handicap Triple Crown?

The first leg was the Met Mile followed by The Suburban Handicap but I can't remember the last leg?

I realize that in New York later during the year, in the fall, there was also another Handicap Triple Crown.

The Woodward, The Marlboro and The Jockey Club Gold Cup. I remember Mack Miller's horse, Fit to Fight winning all 3 of these races.

But does anyone remember the last leg of the earlier Triple?
